About the artist
an endless passion

Calixto was born in San Turce near San Juan in Puerto Rico. He came to New York in 1945 and has lived in the Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Wading River, Long Island. He has recently moved to sunny Florida to follow his dream.

At 7 years of age, Calixto’s life-long passion to create artistic paintings and portraits began when he held his first drawing pencil. Little did he know that his special love for animals and his burning desire to draw people would someday cause him to evolve into one of Long Island’s most respected portrait artists.

As you travel through Long Island’s art galleries, library exhibits and art shows, you are bound to see the portraits of the people and the animals he loves to paint.

When you commission Calixto to paint your portrait, you will have embarked on a most beautiful and unforgettable artistic experience as he immortalizes your loved ones with his God-given talent. His everlasting portraits are heirlooms that can be passed down from one generation to the next. He welcomes the opportunity to share his gift with you. Your satisfaction is unconditionally guaranteed.

Calixto has a degree in graphic design from New York’s Empire State College. He has been a professional graphic designer and photographer since 1965. He has taught at Parson's School of Design in New York City, Hofstra University and Briarcliffe College on Long Island for 27 years. He was president of New Image Advertising Graphics Inc. in New York City for 25 years.

Currently, he lives in Winter Springs, Florida where he teaches fine art at the Maitland Art Center and The Casselberry Art House. Teaching fine art affords him the ability to share and experience art from different vantage points, through the eyes of his students.
